Annual Ranking of Automobile Insurance Complaints

(Updated for 2012 - Publication in PDF Format)

Each year, the Department of Financial Services handles thousands of automobile insurance complaints from New York State consumers. The complaint ranking includes only those complaints closed by the Department of Financial Services, not complaints made directly to insurers. Consumers are encouraged to try to settle their differences directly with their insurers, and if that doesn’t work, then they should complain to the Department of Financial Services.

The 2012 Annual Ranking of Automobile Insurance Complaints ranks 40 insurance companies or groups of companies by the number of automobile insurance complaints upheld against them in 2010 as a percentage of their average 2009-2010 New York State auto premium.
