Alert for Customers of Condor Capital Corporation – Receiver Appointed
On May 14, 2014, the federal District Court for the Southern District of New York entered an order against auto lender Condor Capital Corporation granting a preliminary injunction prohibiting Condor and its owner, Stephen Baron, from engaging in unlawful practices. The District Court also appointed a Receiver to run Condor and protect the interests of all stakeholders, including customers, and directed the Receiver to report to the Court on whether to restart Condor’s loan origination business.
The lawsuit, which the Department of Financial Services initiated on April 23, contends that Condor misled customers about refunds they may have been entitled to, failed to pay refunds owed to customers, and did not have adequate protections in place to safeguard their personal and financial information.
Existing customers, both in and outside of New York State, will continue to be able to access their accounts through Condor's website and via all other methods they have used in the past. Furthermore, all existing customers should continue to make their scheduled payments.
If you are a present or past customer of Condor Capital Corporation and believe that you may have been harmed, you may file a complaint with the Department. If you need additional information, contact our Consumer Hotline at (800) 342-3736.
