Changing Insurers

You may change insurance companies at any time. To do this, you must reapply to the Healthy NY program and send your completed application, supporting documentation and premium check to the insurance company with which you want coverage. You must meet the eligibility criteria at the time of application. For information on which insurance companies offer Healthy NY in your county and premium rates, visit the Insurers and Rates page. If the insurance company receives your completed application, supporting documentation, and first month’s premium payment by the 20th of the month, coverage will start the first of the following month.

You will also need to terminate your existing coverage according to the terms of the contract. Usually you must give at least one month prior notice.

It is not possible to transfer enrollment with one insurance company to another insurance company.

It is important to note that if you change insurers for coverage effective on or after January 1, 2012 you will only be able to enroll in the Healthy NY High Deductible Health Plan even if your previous coverage was Healthy NY without a deductible.
