NEW YORK INSURANCE DEPARTMENT TO HOLD
PUBLIC HEARING ON HEALTH CARE PLANS PROPOSED RATE INCREASE

The New York State Insurance Department has scheduled a public hearing November 19th in Buffalo to consider an application for subscriber rate change by Health Care Plan, Inc. The companys headquarters is located at 28 Church Street, Room 100, Buffalo, NY 14202-3998.
The hearing will be held November 19 at 10 a.m. at the Walter J. Mahoney State Office Building, 65 Court Street, Hearing Room 5, Buffalo, NY.

HMO Prescription Drug Riders
WEIGHTED AVERAGE PERCENTAGE CHANGE REQUESTED: 35%
MEMBERSHIP AFFECTED: 155,000
PROPOSED EFFECTIVE DATE: January 1, 1999
Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) and health service corporations can not change subscriber rates more than +10% without the prior approval of the Insurance Department.

Those unable to attend the hearing may submit written statements for inclusion in the official record within ten days of the hearing date to the Public Affairs & Research Bureau at the Insurance Departments New York City Office. In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Department will provide a reasonable accommodation, such as a sign language interpreter, a qualified reader, etc., at no charge to any covered individual wishing to attend or testify at the hearing when such a request is made at least 7 days before the hearing.
