MEDIA ADVISORY:
DEPARTMENT TO PARTICIPATE IN DISASTER ASSISTANCE
EFFORTS IN ROCKLAND AND WESTCHESTER COUNTIES

The New York State Insurance Department will have representatives at Federal Disaster Recovery Centers, in Rockland and Westchester Counties, October 1st and 2nd to help consumers with insurance related questions in the wake of Tropical Storm Floyd.

The location and the hours of operation of the Centers are as follows:

Rockland
Clarkson Town Hall
10 Maple Avenue
New City, NY

Westchester
Yorktown Green Shopping Center
Downing Drive
Yorktown Heights, NY

Both centers will be open on Friday October 1st from 12 noon to 7 p.m. and Saturday October 2nd from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency and the State Emergency Management Office are opening two Disaster Recovery Centers for the counties of Rockland, Westchester, Putnam and Orange. A disaster declaration for these four counties was declared on September 19, 1999 as a result of Tropical Storm Floyd.

Disaster Recovery Centers are set up by the Federal Government to help the local communities affected by the disaster. People will have the opportunity to meet with representatives from Federal, State, Local, and volunteer agencies to discuss their disaster issues and obtain information about assistance programs. In addition, the Department will answer questions on policy provisions, filing claims, and expediting claims and claims handling practices.
