LEVIN NAMES RAMPE TO SENIOR DEPUTY
SUPERINTENDENT AND GENERAL COUNSEL
Superintendent of Insurance Neil D. Levin today announced that he has named Kevin M. Rampe to the position of Senior Deputy Superintendent and General Counsel of the Insurance Department effective immediately. Rampe was appointed General Counsel September 9, 1999.
"For the past few months, Kevin has demonstrated great ability with regard to both management and policy matters," said Levin. "His expertise on financial services and insurance issues has helped move our agenda forward and I look forward to receiving his input as Kevin plays a greater role in establishing policy on these important issues."
In his new position, Kevin will also play a leadership role in the Departments implementation of Gramm-Leach Bliley, the new financial services modernization bill. The new legislation has far-reaching implications for the Department and poses challenges for insurers and regulators alike.
Rampe joined the Department from Governor Patakis Office where he served as First Assistant Counsel to the Governor. In that capacity, he was a senior legal adviser to the Governor. Previously, Rampe was a litigation associate at the law firm of Shearman & Sterling where he was involved in domestic and international securities, antitrust, and contract litigation as well as various commercial arbitrations.
Rampe received his B.A., cum laude, from Union College in, Schenectady, New York and his J.D., magna cum laude, from Albany Law School. He also is a graduate of the Program for Senior Executives in State and Local Government at Harvard Universitys John F. Kennedy School of Government.
