LEVIN APPOINTS DANIEL R. VARONA DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT

             Superintendent of Insurance Neil D. Levin today announced that he has named Daniel R. Varona a Deputy Superintendent effective immediately. Mr. Varona will oversee the activities of the Department’s Life Bureau as well as coordinate various Department management initiatives.

            Mr. Varona joins the Department from Companion Life Insurance Company where he served as Chief Administrative Officer, Secretary & General Counsel with Life and Annuity Insurer as well as serving on the Board of Directors. He has been in the private insurance business for 20 years.

            "We welcome Daniel to the Department as our newest Deputy Superintendent," said Levin. " His intimate knowledge of the life insurance sector will make him a tremendous asset to the Insurance Department. From his diverse background Daniel is well versed in the issues and challenges involved in the supervision of life insurance, as well as the changing nature of the insurance industry."

            Prior to joining Companion Life, Mr. Varona was Secretary and Counsel at North Atlantic Life Insurance Company from 1985-1987, Vice-President, Secretary and General Counsel at Ideal Mutual Insurance Company from 1979-1985, and an Attorney here at the Department of Insurance from 1977-1979.

            Varona received his bachelor’s degree from The City College of New York and his Juris Doctor from New York Law School. He is also the Chair of the Life and A&H Committee of the New York State Bar Association and a US Navy Veteran. He currently lives in Mahopac, New York.
