STATE LAUNCHES MULTI-MEDIA HEALTHY NY BLITZ
In Celebration of National Small Business Week, Employers and Working Families Reminded of New Program Offering Increased Access to Health Care Coverage
Acting Superintendent Gregory V. Serio today announced the debut of the States new Healthy NY Web site and ad campaign. Healthy NY was established when Governor Pataki signed into law the Health Care Reform Act of 2000 (HCRA 2000), which introduced the program to promote access to quality health care by providing comprehensive health insurance to those citizens who need it most. The new Web site and television and radio ads will be up and running statewide May 7.
"We are extremely pleased to be debuting our new Healthy NY campaign at this important time of year when we honor all small businesses with National Small Business Week," said Serio. "The week of May 6-12th honors the true American entrepreneurial spirit that exists among small business owners and their employees. There is no better time than this to increase awareness of the benefits of Healthy NY designed specifically for small business owners, their employees and other uninsured workers. Our brand new Web site, www.healthyny.com, and television and radio advertisements will introduce Healthy NY to the thousands of hard working uninsured families in New York and give them the opportunity for the affordable, comprehensive insurance coverage they need."
With nearly 90% of all uninsured workers in New York State employed in firms that either do not offer health insurance benefits or are ineligible for their employers insurance coverage, Healthy NY offers these New York families a vital opportunity for health care coverage. As of January 2001, Healthy NYs comprehensive health insurance benefits package is available through all New York State HMOs and other insurers approved by the State Insurance Department.
The television and radio ads introduce Mike Sullivan, a small business owner, who until Healthy NY was unable to provide health coverage to his employees or his family. The new Web site details the following:
- Eligibility Criteria for Small Employers, Individuals and Sole Proprietors;
- Healthy NY Benefit Package;
- How to Apply;
- Healthy NY Rates by County;
- HMOs by County; and
- Frequently asked questions by Small Employers, and Sole Proprietors and Individuals
"Small businesses and their workers, as well as the self-employed and sole proprietors are the driving force in our economy--creating jobs, growing our economy and serving as the springboard for New Yorks high-tech growth in the 21st century," added Serio. "It is our hope that these small business owners and uninsured workers take advantage of Healthy NY because for the first time, it puts quality health insurance coverage in their reach."
