SERIO ANNOUNCES RESIGNATION OF DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT JOHN R. CASHIN
Superintendent of Insurance Gregory V. Serio today announced the resignation of John R. Cashin, Deputy Superintendent, effective July 16, 2001. Mr. Cashin has served as Deputy Superintendent since March 20, 2000. After the successful completion of several Department initiatives, Cashin has decided to pursue other opportunities.
"Johns extensive experience in both the public and private sectors and extensive knowledge of the insurance industry has made him an integral part of our regulatory team," said Serio. "He has done an excellent job as Deputy Superintendent, leading our property/casualty bureau in implementing the Departments speed-to-market initiative, the dissolution of the Medical Malpractice Insurance Association, and in bringing his extensive market experiences to the bureau. I know that John will continue to be successful and I wish him the best of luck in his new endeavors."
Mr. Cashin joined the Department after 20 years in the reinsurance brokerage business, most recently as Executive Vice President of Willis Reinsurance. From 1978 to 1980 he served as counsel to the Senate Committee on Insurance in the New York Legislature. He received his bachelors degree from St. Francis College in Brooklyn and his MBA from the City University of New York. He holds a law degree from Fordham University School of Law and a Masters Degree in International Law from New York University Graduate School of Law.
"It has been a privilege to work for the premier insurance regulator in the country and participate in the legislative, regulatory, transactional and enforcement initiatives undertaken by the New York State Insurance Department," said Cashin.
