INSURANCE DEPARTMENT’S NEW YORK OFFICES TO RE-OPEN
25 Beaver Street Offices Will Be Up-and-Running to Serve New York’s Insurance Consumers, Additional Consumer Service Offices Established and Company Service Centers Downtown

             Superintendent Gregory V. Serio today announced that the Insurance Department’s New York offices will re-open to continue to service the needs of New York’s insurance consumers. The offices, located in the New York City’s financial district, were closed last week following the World Trade Center incident. The Department has since operated out of offices in midtown Manhattan.

             In addition to the New York City and Albany offices, the Department has established insurance consumer outreach centers to provide direct contact with Department personnel to those impacted by the disaster. Department staff will be available to answer questions regarding claims, procedures and all disaster-related insurance questions.

             "The new satellite offices of the Insurance Department Consumer Services Bureau will assist New Yorkers in filing claims and receiving timely payment for their losses in this time of need," said Superintendent Serio. "The Albany and New York offices are available to serve the people of New York State, but we are pleased to offer additional personal walk-in services to residents of the Westchester and Long Island areas that may have been impacted by the disaster."

             The satellite offices will be open from 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. and are located:

In Westchester County
75 South Broadway (across from the Westchester Mall)
White Plains

In Nassau County
The Insurance Department’s offices at 200 Old Country Road

Mineola, will accept walk-in consumers and a new dedicated customer service office in Suffolk County will open in the immediate future. The phone number in Mineola is 516-248-5886.

             The Insurance Department has also established a toll-free disaster hotline to help consumers and insurers with any disaster-related questions. The hotline is available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week at 1-800-339-1759. The Department’s Web site will contain the additional Suffolk County location when confirmed and also contains up-to-date information on insurance-related issues and contact numbers. The site is located at www.ins.state.ny.us

             Allstate, Travelers and other companies have established insurance company catastrophe centers to assist New Yorkers in the aftermath of the World Trade Center disaster. Other companies will be also be supplying mobile units and will be established over the next few days establishing consumer service centers. Updated information on new locations will be posted to the Department’s Web site as soon as it becomes available.

              "The New York State insurance industry is very committed to meeting their obligations arising as a result of this incident," said Superintendent Serio. "By bringing these mobile units to downtown Manhattan, the companies are proactively reaching out to their customers and helping to address questions, assist with claims filings and expedite payments."

             The vehicles are located as follows:

Allstate- A 24-foot mobile catastrophe response unit is currently located at SP Parking at 735 6th Avenue between 24th and 25th Streets.

Travelers-Two 40-foot by 15-foot mobile catastrophe response units are currently located in downtown Manhattan and a third expected. One unit is currently located at 14th Street and 10th Avenue.
