DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES AVAILABILITY OF SINGLE UNIFORM
HEALTHY NY APPLICATION
New Improved Application Eases Process to Access Affordable Health Insurance Program

Superintendent Gregory V. Serio announced today the adoption of a new standardized application for the State’s Healthy NY program. The form will enhance accessibility to the Healthy NY program for individuals and small business.

The announcement was made earlier today at the Chamber Alliance of New York State Legislators’ Luncheon in Albany where Superintendent Serio received the ‘Government Official of the Year’ honors for his commitment to chambers of commerce statewide, and for advancing the dialogue on sole proprietor health insurance legislation.

Healthy NY, signed into law by Governor Pataki in 1999, is designed specifically to increase access of affordable health insurance coverage for sole proprietors and small business owners and their employees.

"To better meet the needs of working consumers who lack health insurance coverage we are extremely pleased to be providing the new, improved application for Healthy NY," said Serio. "The applications are much shorter, and they are easier to complete and review. This should aid in the effort to more effectively and efficiently serve the needs of New York’s insurance consumers. "

Previously each individual company had their own application for Healthy NY. Now, one application has been developed for small business applicants and a separate application has been developed for individuals and sole proprietors. All HMOs are now required to accept these applications.

"Utilizing a standardized form will enable more consumers direct access to this vital health insurance program.," added Serio.

The new applications can be obtained on the Healthy NY Web site www.healthyny.com and the Department’s web site www.ins.state.ny.us.
