STATEMENT BY SUPERINTENDENT OF INSURANCE GREGORY V. SERIO
ON FIRST DEPUTY KEVIN M.RAMPE’S APPOINTMENT AT
LOWER MANHATTAN DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION

On behalf of the New York State Insurance Department I would like to congratulate First Deputy Superintendent Kevin M. Rampe on his appointment as Executive Vice President and General Counsel for the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation. There are few things as important as the work to restore New York from the atrocities of September 11th and Kevin brings great talent and determination to that endeavor.

Kevin Rampe has been an invaluable member of the Department’s executive team over the past three years and his contributions and achievements have been of great benefit to New York consumers and the state’s insurance industry.

Kevin Rampe joined the Department in 1999 as Senior Deputy Superintendent and General Counsel overseeing the activities of the Department’s Office of General Counsel. In May of 2001 I designated him as First Deputy Superintendent during which he was integral in coordinating various Insurance Department administrative programs and management initiatives. He has also been instrumental in streamlining procedures to make the Department even more efficient and effective. Chief among his successes has been the closing of several high profile insurance transactions and his pursuit of investigations into race-based underwriting. He was also a vital player in the Department’s ongoing response to the many issues arising out of 9/11, which makes him singularly qualified for his new role.

He will be a tremendous asset to the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation in his continued service to the people of the State of New York. We wish him much success and look forward to working with him in future endeavors.
