SERIO NAMES MOLINARO SENIOR DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT

          Superintendent of Insurance Gregory V. Serio today announced that he has named Peter J. Molinaro as Senior Deputy Superintendent of Insurance. In his new position, Peter will be the Chief Policy and Program Officer of the Department and will be based in the Albany office. His appointment is effective April 25, 2002.

          Mr. Molinaro joins the Department from the New York State Workers Compensation Board where he served as General Counsel since June of 1999. In that capacity, he was chief attorney and senior legal adviser to the Chairman and the Board of Commissioners. In this role he spearheaded numerous initiatives that have led to a streamlining of the Board’s adjudication process resulting in injured workers receiving benefits faster and more efficiently. Prior to his position at the Workers’ Compensation Board he was Deputy General Attorney at the State Insurance Fund and responsible for supervision and administration of all district legal office matters. At the Fund he also acted as Director of the State Fund Legislative Affairs program and supervising the State Fund’s Contracts and Procurement Unit. Mr. Molinaro also brings more then 15 years of private legal practice experience.

          Mr. Molinaro’s appointment marks a return to the Department. He was the Associate General Counsel at the Insurance Department coordinating legislative proposals and advising the First Deputy Superintendent on legal matters from January 1996 to January 1999.

          "With Peter, the Department will have a seasoned manager with broad experience in many areas of both government and insurance," said Serio. "I welcome Peter back to the Department and I know that his expertise will assist the Department as it addresses an entire array of policy issues confronting insurance regulation in what truly is a more complex world," Serio said.

          Peter lives in Menands, New York with his wife Sheila and two sons. He has been a member of the Menands Volunteer Fire Company #1 for 14 years and is a past president of the Menands Rotary Club.
