SERIO APPOINTS JOSEPH A. DEMAURO DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT
Superintendent of Insurance Gregory V. Serio today announced that he has named Joseph A. DeMauro CPCU, ARe, as Deputy Superintendent effective immediately. Mr. DeMauro will coordinate various Department management initiatives working directly with the Senior Deputy Superintendent.
"I am pleased to welcome Joe as our newest Deputy Superintendent," said Serio. "His extensive experience in management and legal issues will be a tremendous asset to the Department and I look forward to Joes contributions as he assumes his new responsibilities."
DeMauro was named Associate Counsel in September of 2001. He previously served as Special Counsel and Managing Attorney for Corporate Affairs in the Departments Liquidation Bureau, where he was responsible for resolving various legal issues concerning insurance and reinsurance law, insolvency law, directors, officers and agents liability, and coverage issues. DeMauro represented the Liquidator in trial and appellate levels and assisted the Executive Bureau in establishing and implementing Bureau policy.
In October of 2001, Joe achieved top honors for his performance on the 10 national examinations that Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) candidates must pass to complete the program. Of the 1,244 persons who earned the CPCU professional designation, five people achieved top honors. Mr. DeMauro received a CPCU Award for Academic Excellence from the CPCU-Harry J. Loman Foundation and the American Institute.
Prior to joining the Department, DeMauro was a Senior Administrative Attorney at the New York City Department of Sanitation from 1986 to 1995. He is a graduate of St. Johns University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice and received his Juris Doctor from Cardozo School of Law. Mr. DeMauro is a director and past president of the Kiwanis Club of Morris Park. He currently resides in Bronx, New York with his wife Eileen and children Michael and Robert.
