DEPARTMENT OFFERS ASSISTANCE TO CONSUMERS AFFECTED BY HEAVY RAIN UPSTATE
Superintendent Advises Consumers to Call Department Hotline for Assistance

Superintendent of Insurance Gregory V. Serio today announced that the Insurance Department is available to help New Yorkers who are affected by the heavy rains occurring in the North Country. Consumers are encouraged to call the Insurance Department’s toll-free emergency hotline for assistance with any insurance-related inquiries or complaints.

Consumers who have an insurance related question or problem should call the Department’s Disaster Hotline, toll-free 1-800-339-1759, which is staffed from 9am to 5pm by insurance experts from the Department’s Consumer Services Bureau. The Department will also be working with the State Emergency Management Office (SEMO) to provide assistance to New Yorkers affected by this disaster.

The Department reminds New Yorkers with damaged property that they should be contacting their individual insurer representatives as soon as possible. They should also be making every effort to protect their homes from further damage, such as covering any roof damage that has occurred as a result of the heavy rains.
