SERIO NAMES BARDONG DIRECTOR AND DIMURO AND STEWART DEPUTY DIRECTORS OF DEPARTMENTS FRAUDS BUREAU
Superintendent of Insurance Gregory V. Serio today announced that he has made three new appointments in the Departments Frauds Bureau. Serio has named Charles A. Bardong Director of the Frauds Bureau, Nicholas DiMuro Assistant Director, and Hazel L. Stewart Assistant Director and Counsel. All three appointments are effective immediately.
"Charlie, Nicholas, and Hazel bring valuable law enforcement perspectives to the Department and have distinguished careers as crime-fighters, supervisors and administrators," said Serio. "I am pleased to welcome Charlie and Nicholas to the Insurance Department and look forward to continuing to forge new ground with Hazel as we continue to strengthen our capabilities to fight insurance fraud and protect all of New Yorks policyholders."
Charles Bardong joins the Department from the Moreland Act Commission on New York City Schools where he was Chief Investigator. He previously served as Deputy Chief of the New York State Inspector Generals Office and spent twenty-two years with the New York City Police Department (NYPD) where he rose to the rank of Lieutenant. At the NYPD, Mr. Bardong was assigned to the Manhattan District Attorneys Squad supervising and directing over forty detectives involved in long-term investigations of organized crime, bank and securities fraud, forgery and homicide. Mr. Bardong also founded and managed a licensed private investigation and security firm employing over forty attorneys, investigators and security professionals and served in the United States Coast Guard Reserve.
Nicholas DiMuro brings to the Department twenty-eight years of training and experience with the NYPD, last serving as Captain. While at the NYPD, he supervised investigations in three Bronx Commands, directing all police activities in serious crimes and emergencies. Mr. DiMuro holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from the New York Institute of Technology.
Hazel Stewart joined the Department in July of 2001 as Assistant Counsel in the Frauds Bureau. Ms. Stewart has twenty years of law enforcement experience with the NYPD with over fifteen years spent in a managerial capacity. Hazel has served as Commanding Officer of several high profile investigative and uniform patrol commands, last serving as Captain. Ms. Stewart holds a Bachelor of Arts in Government and Public Administration from John Jay College of Criminal Justice, completed the Executive Business Program at Columbia Universitys Police Management Institute and earned her Juris Doctor from Fordham University School of Law.
