DEPARTMENT REPRESENTATIVES AVAILABLE TO DISCUSS INSURANCE COVERAGE OPTIONS FOR RETIREES AND ACTIVE EMPLOYEES OF BETHLEM STEEL
Superintendent of Insurance Gregory V. Serio today announced that representatives from the Departments Consumer Services Bureau will be participating in Informational Sessions on Friday, March 21st to explain insurance options for retirees and active employees of Bethlehem Steel. Last month, the Lackawanna-area company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. It is estimated that approximately 12,000 retirees are going to lose their health insurance as a result of Bethlehem's bankruptcy.
The Informational Sessions, hosted by the United Steelworkers of America will be held, Friday, March 21st at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. at the Hearthstone Manor, 333 Dick Road, Depew, New York.
In an effort to continue to ensure that retirees and active employees maintain proper insurance coverage, Department representatives will be attending these Informational Sessions to discuss insurance options and answer related questions, including the availability of Healthy NY coverage
In addition to representatives from the Insurance Department, representatives from EPIC, Erie County HIICAP, CMS, and the State Office for the Aging, will be in attendance. Medicare + Choice Organizations in the region will also be available since many retirees already have Medicare HMO plans as a retirement benefit.
