WHY:

Winter months are typically peak months for home fires. In addition, the recent frigid conditions in the Northeast have caused fires as individuals try to stay warm or to defrost pipes, etc. Further property damage from water leaks and broken pipes has been done to homes and commercial buildings because of the severe weather.

In addition, January 19-23 is Get Smart About Insurance Week, and reminds all of us to take time to review our policies and make sure we have adequate insurance coverage for such occurrences.

For additional information on the press conference, please contact Terri Marchon at the Insurance Department at 212-480-5262 or 518-474-4567.
