NYPIUA ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR NEW INSURANCE AND ISSUING RENEWALS FOR EXISTING POLICIES
The New York State Insurance Department today announced that the New York Property Insurance Underwriting Association (NYPIUA) has begun to accept applications for new insurance policies and is issuing renewals for existing policies. Provisions of the New York Insurance Law had sunset, discontinuing the writing of new business and renewals after April 30, 2004. Governor George E. Pataki has signed into law legislation renewing NYPIUAs authority until June 30, 2005.
NYPIUA is a joint underwriting association created in 1968 under the laws of the state of New York to meet the basic insurance needs of the public. NYPIUA provides meaningful property insurance coverage to residents who have difficulty obtaining homeowners insurance or commercial property insurance in the voluntary market.
