INSURANCE DEPARTMENT LAUNCHES REDESIGNED WEB SITE
Superintendent of Insurance Howard Mills today announced that the New York State Insurance Departments redesigned Web site is officially online, offering visitors to www.ins.state.ny.us a fresh look and enhanced navigational tools.
"The Insurance Departments Web site draws almost two million visitors annually and the improvements weve made will make it easier for them to find what theyre looking for, whether they are consumers seeking information about auto or health care insurance rates, or agents and brokers looking to renew their licenses online," said Superintendent Mills.
The states Office of Technology (OFT) has developed a new banner for all state agencies external Web sites, achieving a consistent visual look throughout New York State government while making public information more readily available. With this redesign, the Insurance Departments Web site is also more accessible to the visually-impaired as screen readers are able to scan and translate the text which is posted there.
"This is only the first phase of a complete redesign that will be completed in the first quarter of 2006," Superintendent Mills stated. "The Insurance Department remains committed to maintaining a Web site which exceeds the expectations of consumers and licensees alike."
The Insurance Departments Web site debuted in September 1997 and was upgraded substantially in 1999 to break out information for the three primary groups that were visiting the Department site: agents and brokers, consumers, and insurers. Senior citizens were added in 2004 as a separate constituency. The Web sites home page also offers links to Insurance Information for the Seriously Ill and Healthy NY, the reduced-cost health insurance program that since January 2001 has made health care coverage available to small businesses, sole proprietors and other working New Yorkers.
