INDEPENDENT INSURANCE AGENTS GROUP HONORS CASTIGLIONE

Superintendent of Insurance Howard Mills today announced that the Department’s Assistant Deputy Superintendent and Chief of the Consumer Services and Licensing Bureau, Salvatore Castiglione, was honored by the trade association representing professional, independent insurance agencies, brokerages and their employees throughout the state.

Mr. Castiglione was presented with a presidential citation by the Professional Insurance Agents of New York State, Inc., for dedication to and improvement of the insurance industry and for helping PIANY serve its members. He received the award at the association’s recent annual business meeting.

"Independent insurance agents are a key part of this important industry," Superintendent Mills said. "Sal Castiglione has worked to foster open communications and strengthen the working relationship between the Department and PIA. It is gratifying to see his hard work recognized."

PIANY 2005-06 President J. Carlos "Shawn" Viaņa said Mr. Castiglione had improved the licensing renewal process for New York state’s independent agents and helped PIA to keep its members informed and up-to-date with information to help their customers.

"Under Sal’s leadership, license issuance, renewals and producer appointments have been automated," Mr. Viaņa said. "There are numerous examples PIA can cite, for which Sal Castiglione has helped PIANY serve its members as chief of the Consumer Services Bureau and director of Licensing Services at the NYSID, but most importantly I’d like to recognize he has been a friend of PIA and our members since he was based in New York City, working for the department in Consumer Services."

Mr. Castiglione, a 35-year veteran of the department, lives with his wife, Denise, in the Albany area.
