FUNERAL DIRECTOR ARRESTED FOR FILING FALSE INSURANCE CLAIM
The operator of an Albany County funeral home was charged June 3 with insurance fraud and falsifying business records in connection with an unsuccessful attempt to obtain a $6,130 insurance payment.
Benjamin L. Meyers, 67, the operator of Meyers Funeral Home Ltd., 741 Delaware Ave., Delmar, was arrested by Investigator Philip D' Angelo of the New York State Insurance Department. Detective Adam Hornick of the Bethlehem Police Department assisted in the arrest.
Meyers is accused of attempting to obtain payment for fraudulent business expenses he said he incurred when he was unable to use the funeral home because of water damage caused by a leaky roof. He allegedly submitted false receipts when filing the insurance claim with Harleysville Insurance.
Meyers was released pending a future court hearing following arraignment in Bethlehem Town Court. The case is being prosecuted by Albany County Assistant District Attorney John Spencer.
