Serio Encourages Area Businesses & Working Individuals to Consider Healthy NY

Superintendent of Insurance Gregory V. Serio today will be in Plattsburgh, New York at the Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital to highlight Healthy NY, an important health insurance option for small businesses, sole proprietors and working uninsured and to encourage even more New Yorkers in the North Country to enroll.

"I am pleased to be here today at the Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital to discuss the State’s efforts to provide working New Yorkers access to quality health insurance. Access to affordable health insurance is a priority for the Governor, and has been an important topic here in the North Country. Healthy NY is the health insurance answer for tens of thousands of small businesses around New York State and I am here today to encourage New Yorkers in Plattsburgh and the entire North Country to take a look at this important health insurance option," said Serio.

"With more than 55,000 individuals obtaining comprehensive health insurance coverage through Healthy NY, New York State is ensuring a healthy, productive workforce," added Serio. "The Governor is committed to providing quality health insurers to all New Yorkers and working individuals in the North Country should consider Healthy NY where rates are approximately 50-70% lower than the standard market. Now Healthy NY is more affordable and easier to qualify for, and enrolling ensures quality healthy insurance coverage for you and your family."

The visit to Plattsburgh follows stops in Albany, Poughkeepsie and Utica earlier this year as part of the statewide tour to promote this important health insurance product.

Additionally, the new Healthy NY media campaign kicked-off in October. The new television ads feature a small business owner, recent college graduate and uninsured worker, all who, because of Healthy NY, are now able to get the health coverage they need.

Following the press conference, the Superintendent will attend Plattsburgh’s Health Insurance Committee Meeting to discuss area health insurance issues.

Healthy NY was established when Governor Pataki signed into law the Health Care Reform Act of 2000, which introduced the program to promote access to quality health care by providing comprehensive health insurance to working individuals. Earlier this year, Governor Pataki announced major improvements to the program to make it even more accessible and affordable to small employers and working families, significantly reducing rates and expanding eligibility guidelines so that more New Yorkers will have access to this important health insurance choice.

The Healthy NY program is a state-sponsored health insurance program for eligible small businesses with 50 or fewer employees, sole proprietors and eligible working uninsured individuals.
