Banking
The DFS oversees state-chartered banks, credit unions, mortgage companies, budget planners, check cashers, money transmitters, licensed lenders, sales and premium finance agencies, safe deposit companies and the agencies, branches and representative offices of foreign banks. File a Banking FOIL if you are looking for information about one of these entities.
Insurance
The DFS is responsible for supervising and regulating all insurance business in New York State. File an Insurance FOIL if if you are looking for information about an insurance agent, broker, consultant, reinsurance intermediary, adjuster, or bail bondsman.
