TO ALL COMPANIES WRITING GROUP HOSPITALIZATION EXPENSE AND SURGICAL OPERATION INSURANCE

Gentlemen:

The replies received to our circular letter of October 11, 1943, indicate general agreement as to the desirability of an additional reserve against deferred maternity benefits provided under group hospitalization expense and surgical operation policies. Accordingly, it is requested that each company include this reserve in its 1943 statement or, if the company desires, it will be acceptable if the full reserve is accumulated over a period such as four or five years.
