No, the New York State Insurance Department does not issue licenses to people or businesses that inspect hazards for commercial and/or residential insurance companies.
Facts
The inquirer is an inspector who has worked for companies that provide inspection services for insurance companies that inspect hazards for residential and commercial insurance companies. The inquirer is interested in starting such a company and wanted to know what, if any, licenses would be required by the New York State Insurance Department.
Analysis
The New York State Insurance Department does not license inspectors or inspection businesses for property insurance companies. The Department is not aware what, if any, other licenses may be required.
