Superintendent of Insurance Neil D. Levin today named Louis W. Pietroluongo as a Deputy Superintendent. Mr. Pietroluongo will oversee the activities of the Department’s Insurance Frauds Bureau, as well as coordinate various Insurance Department administrative programs and management initiatives.

Mr. Pietroluongo has 32 years of distinguished service with the New York City Police Department, where he rose to the rank of Deputy Chief. He has extensive experience in management, administration, program development, training, and analyzing procedures.

"I am pleased to welcome Lou to the Insurance Department," said Superintendent Levin. "We will make use of his extensive background in management to help oversee the Insurance Frauds Bureau and streamline the Insurance Department to make it even more efficient and effective."

Mr. Pietroluongo served as Executive Officer of Patrol in the Bronx in his most recent enforcement assignment. He supervised, directed, and coordinated the activities of the 12 precinct commands in the borough as well as several administrative and investigative units, altogether encompassing 3,200 police officers and supervisors. He also developed, reviewed and coordinated crime-fighting programs and policies.

Among his other accomplishments with the NYPD were serving as Commanding Officer of the Quality Control Section; designing and implementing crime prevention programs for U.S. Navy personnel stationed in Brooklyn and Staten Island; and coordinating the NYPD’s Subway Protection Program.

Mr. Pietroluongo graduated from Brooklyn College with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science, and graduated from the New York City Police Management Institute at Columbia University.
