Deputy Superintendent of Financial Services James Wrynn to Join Goldberg Segalla Law Firm

Former Insurance Superintendent Wrynn Played a Key Role in Merger

Benjamin M. Lawsky, Superintendent of Financial Services, today announced that James J. Wrynn, Deputy Superintendent of Financial Services, is leaving state service to accept a position with Goldberg Segalla LLP as Managing Director of the firm's New York City office and will serve as a Senior Partner with its Global Insurance Services practices group.

“Jim Wrynn has been an exemplary public servant. Jim demonstrated strong leadership as a member of the new Department of Financial Services and earlier as Superintendent of Insurance. I thank him for his service and wish him the best in his future endeavors,” said Governor Andrew M. Cuomo.

“Jim was instrumental in ensuring the successful launch of the Department of Financial Services when the former Insurance and Banking Departments merged last year to create a single regulator. Jim’s insight and experience were extraordinarily helpful in ensuring a smooth, efficient transition and I am grateful for all of his efforts,” said Benjamin M. Lawsky, Financial Services Superintendent.

“Serving New Yorkers as part of the Department of Financial Services and earlier as Superintendent of Insurance was a truly great experience. I appreciate the support that I received from Governor Cuomo and Superintendent Lawsky. I am certain they will continue to provide the strong leadership needed to provide New Yorkers with effective consumer protection and encourage the growth of robust financial services industries,” Deputy Superintendent Wrynn said.

James Wrynn served as the 40th and last Superintendent of Insurance before the merger creating the Department of Financial Services last October. His last day at the Department will be March 2, 2012.

Under Wrynn’s leadership as Superintendent, the Insurance Department worked on a wide range of issues to protect consumers, including focusing on implementing health insurance reforms under new state and federal laws. Wrynn also played a key role nationally and internationally on insurance issues. He served in leadership positions with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners as Chair of its Northeast Zone, a member of its Executive Committee and Vice Chair of the International Insurance Relations (G) Committee.
